An Invitation to the 2014 Financial Literacy Summer Institute (July 14-18)

Student Loan DebtHigh School Educator,

As educators, we strive to prepare students to be engaged citizens and active participants in our democratic society. We also want to equip students with the knowledge and analytical tools they need to make informed judgments about financial decisions affecting their own lives.

That is why Teachers College, Columbia University (TC) is partnering with Working in Support of Education (W!se) to offer the weeklong, TC Cowin Financial Literacy Summer Institute for high school teachers—a workshop that will provide teachers the tools and resources they need to support students in making good choices about budgeting, saving, investing, consumption, and borrowing.

We invite you to join us from July 14–18, 2014 at TC for the 2014 Institute, a series of collaborative and interactive workshops on personal finance with explicit ties to standards and curricula. You will learn from content area experts, work with your colleagues to create customized instructional materials and walk away with several ready to use lessons. At the end of the Institute, you will have an opportunity to take W!se’s Certification Test and earn a Certification in Personal Finance if you pass. More information is available at

Due to the generous support of TC Trustee Joyce Cowin, we are able to offer this institute at no charge. Ms. Cowin will also be hosting a dinner for all participants during the week. In addition, upon successful completion of the Summer Institute, participants will receive:

  • A TC Certificate of Completion
  • The opportunity to earn a Certification in Personal Finance
  • A $300 stipend

Space in the TC Financial Literacy Summer Institute will be limited, so register soon by clicking on the link below:

Priority will be given to teachers who register along with a colleague from the same school. At the same time, we can’t guarantee more than two teachers per school. For more information contact me or David Anderson at W!se ( or at 212-421-2700).

We look forward to seeing you next July!
